Cash for trash

(02:21) Report

Oct 30 - Philippine clean energy firm extracts biogas to produce electricity.

Tranzen Renewable Energy's Montalban Power Plant captures methane from a landfill that collects 1,500 tonnes of household waste a day.

Expecting to run at 12 megawatts, it will reduce the equivalent of 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, worth around 2 million U.S. dollars when sold as carbon credits.

The plant will be connected to Rodriguez town's main power grid before the year ends.

Michaela Cabrera reports.
