Teaching Social and Emotional Skills

By Randy Taran
Before Playworks, Leonard’s angry outbursts required two teachers’ attention to keep everyone around him safe and to calm him down. With Playworks Coach Shayla’s introduction of social and emotional skills through play, Leonard learned to manage his anger and was able to join the fun.

At Playworks, we create a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. Here are some of the games and activities our coaches use to make recess fun for all students.
Games to practice kindness

Games to build community

Games to teach conflict resolution

Games to develop cooperation
